When I first heard the news Gov. Sarah Palin was selected as McCain's running mate I had a similar reaction most did. "It's a purely political, last minute pick to get Hillary Clinton's votes. This may be a strategic reason; however I'm not entirely convinced it was a last minute or politically expedited decision. I'm beginning to think she was on McCain's short list from the start and possibly always at the top. Her speech last night was one of a Presidential Nominee. She seemed to bring McCain's name up during almost as an afterthought. This was brilliant on Matt Scully's part, not only did she carry the night, but it was a great precursor to 2012. John McCain early in the campaign season mentioned he would only be interested in running for one term if elected. This may have been a tell or an amazing coincidence, Sarah Palin would make an amazing Presidential candidate. With the experience and polish she will get from working as Vice President, she will be a force to reckon with come 2012. If I had to give the DNC some advice on the subject now it would be not to float Hillary against her, she will lose. This is just another example of John McCain's character, that he would sacrifice a Presidential legacy to promote a landmark occasion in our country's history. Always the soldier, doing what is right for the common good. I was not a big supporter of McCain's in the beginning, I was still mad at him for the "Gang of 14". Maybe in hindsight the media's reporting of that made it appear very elitist. Just imagine a Palin/Santorum 2012 ticket, kind of interesting.
